Enterprise Vs. Residential Grade Wi-Fi Networks [Video]

Hi, my name is Erik. I’m the Director of Engineering here at SecurEdge Networks.

Today I want to talk to you guys a little bit about the differences between enterprise grade and residential grade AP’s or Wi-Fi.

So, the main difference is going to be around grade and feature set.

Think of a Hardware Store

A hardware store is expansive for a reason.

So, they carry many different types of tools because the mindset is that not one tool is the right thing for every job. Very similar to Wi-Fi. There is going to be different models and different types and all of that can get very confusing.

Discovery Questions

So, a lot of these questions we ask for upfront to our customers are going to really be discovery questions to understand what we are trying to accomplish for you.

• Are you a high capacity environment?
• Are you going to want a lot of redundancy?
• Are you going to look for specific features that we can offer for you?

So, all of those questions that we’ll ask are going to help us then design the best solution for you that’s turnkey.

Outdoor Vs. Indoor

Talking about grade and feature set. Think of outdoor versus indoor.

If you’re an environment that requires Wi-Fi outside, you’re going to want to have those AP’s be outdoor rated to make sure that we are able to provide that type of solution for you.

Feature set, fast roaming, things like traffic shaping, all of those things are very key that may be needed in your environment because no one environment or no one solution for us is the same.

Then when talking about the effectiveness for your solution we want to make sure that all of those questions are answered so that we can provide a turnkey solution that’s going to be as hands off as possible for you as the customer.

A Good Wi-Fi is One That Works

We want to make sure that you are spending as little time as possible supporting that network but if the need arises we’re also there with an engineering team that’s certified and able to help you at a tier two level.
